Now that my blog has been up for a little while it is time that I profile my sensei, Derek Bindner. I am fortunate to have found someone that not only has a profound passion for Yoshinkan Aikdo but also has the ability to pass this on to his students. It is important to have not only technical profiency but to be able to teach as well. Unfortunately these two skills do not often go hand in hand. I am fortunate to have found an instructor that has both these qualities.
Yoshinkan Aikido has many subtlties and Bindner Sensei has a firm grasps of these subtlties and is able to express them in a way that makes them easy to learn. I love the fact that he can scrutinize the smallest of my movements and correct them before I engrain them into memory. By being this technical I believe that I am able to reach a much deeper and more profound level in Yoshinkan Aikido. This attention to detail can come only with years of experience.
Bindner Sensei holds the rank of Sandan (3rd degree) and has years of experience in not only Aikido but in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu along with several other martial arts and private security which I believe brings a great deal to his instruction. Bindner Sensei has devoted his life to the path of Aikido and it is this love for the art that comes through in his teaching. It is infectious. Those of us that study under Bindner Sensei are truely fortunate.
